The Basics.

Tips for good photography.

(Please note that these are suggestions for novice photographers. If you already know what you're doing, please skip this section and start shooting!)

-Make sure there's plenty of light, either natural or artificial.

-Do not shoot into the sun.

-Do not use the zoom, unless it's slow and steady.

-You may want to keep the zoom feature on "wide" and adjust your shot by moving yourself closer or further away from the object.

-If you have to pan or tilt the camera, do it slowly, without jolting.

-Make sure the shots are steady, especially if you're walking. If it's a static (not moving) shot, use a tripod or some other stable object, like a table, or the back of a chair, or even your hip.

-Fill the frame. Make sure there's not too much room above, below, or on the sides of the image.

-Let each shot roll for at least ten seconds.

-Be sure to prominently include the subject's best features, (i.e. a fireplace, pool, bay window, million-dollar view, etc.)

-The same is true for a business, (i.e. a busy kitchen, a flamboyant dish being prepared and presented, anything with physical activity that illustrates what you do.)

-Please watch the Samples for additional guidance and suggestions.
